Hi! my name is Meaghan Sweeney (She/They)! I am a queer contemporary mixed media artist based in Waawiiatanong (Windsor-Essex). My work is an introspective exploration of self, analyzing themes of values, personal philosophy, identity, and lived experience with mental illness. I received my BFA in Fine Arts at the University of Windsor in 2021. I have a strong passion for mental health advocacy and using art as a tool for connection, healing, and community building.

I have participated in the group exhibition Urban Interruption_s at SoCa Gallery (2019), the group exhibition _Place of Healing at Artspeak Gallery (2021), the community display Pride and Joy at the Art Gallery of Windsor (2021), the solo exhibition An Invitation to Exist at Artspeak Gallery (2022), and the group exhibition Getting to Know Vanguard at Artspeak Gallery (2023). I was a panellist for the Virtual Community Panel: The Importance of Pride & Joy, Art Gallery of Windsor, (2021), I facilitated Saturdays in the Studio: Mosaic Paper Collage, Art Windsor Essex (June 2022), the occasional Feel Good Art Group at The Youth Wellness Hub Ontario’s Windsor-Essex Branch in (2022-2023) an co-creator and co-editor of Vanguard’s Spot On! Artist Interview Series.

  • CJAM is a nonprofit campus-based community radio station. We provide music and information programming not offered by mainstream commercial media in the Windsor/Detroit area. We serve people and groups within the community who are under represented or maligned by mainstream media by allowing a forum to express their views.

Volunteer Art Facilitator, Colors of Resilience, Windsor Youth Centre and Women’s Welcome Centre Shelter, Windsor, ON, 2023

  • This project highlighted and uplifted local artists who are experiencing homelessness’ work - they are amazing artists whose talent would otherwise have gone unseen. We gave them a platform to succeed as creatives with a workshop series at WYC and the Welcome Centre Shelter and an art exhibition at Artspeak Gallery in August of 2023.

Volunteer Art Facilitator, Healing through Creative Creation: Watercolour Puddles and Intuitive Drawing Workshop, Windsor Women Working With Immigrant Women, 2023

  • Facilitated an art workshop for WWWIW's final workshop for their gender-based violence program. They work to provide women-centred support to newcomer women and their families to become full participating members of Canadian society where they are empowered to determine the direction of their lives and advocate for themselves, their families and their community with dignity and pride.
